Close to Home : Amusements in the Adirondacks
Label:
Seneca Ray Stoddard, like many artists who have come to the Adirondack Mountains, found inspiration in the quiet solitude of the outdoors. He took this self-portrait, titled "High Art," on the side of Blue Mountain on September 15, 1879. He is wearing a cap and loose-fitting suit with gathered sleeves, probably to keep blackflies and mosquitoes away.
