Rustic Furniture : Nature's Art
Label:
Charles Sumner (ca. 1861-1937) made these cedar armchairs for Camp Iroquois on Upper Saranac Lake. The backrests are in the form of a swastika, an ancient symbol traditionally associated with life, light, strength, eternity, and good luck. In 1920, the Nazi Party of Germany adopted the swastika, reducing this symbol of life to an icon of evil.
