Rustic Furniture : Nature's Art
Label:
Elmer Erwin Patterson (1859-1949) arrived in Speculator in 1885. He made and sold snowshoes and packbaskets with his father. In the 1920s he was living in Osceola, making furniture which he sold, somewhat unsuccessfully, to summer residents and visitors in Speculator. This rocking chair is a rare example of his surviving work, made with yellow birch frame and woven ash splint seat.
