Adirondack Guideboats : Beauty and Utility in Action
Section:
In Form and Function

Label:
A guideboat is a type of a rowboat. It is narrow and fast and efficient and very enjoyable to row. It is great for long distance trips, and it can handle the rough waves that sometimes occur on large lakes. On a summer evening, when the lakes tend to be calm, you might "go for a row" in a guideboat simply for pleasure.

Images of a lone rower in a guideboat on an Adirondack lake are among the most iconic of Adirondack images. Seneca Ray Stoddard took this photograph of a guideboater rowing at sunset on Raquette Lake around 1890.
