In September 1944, the US Army comandeered the Lake Placid Club for use as a Redistribution Center. Soldiers returning stateside to decompress from combat or prolonged rotations overseas spent 7 to 14 days at the resort. They were given medical exams, offered assistance with personal issues, provided information to assist their post-war plans, and reassigned to a new posting. In between required appointments, they were free to enjoy any number of activites and sports. Soldiers' wives were welcome, for a small fee, to stay with their husbands.
