Adirondack Hermits : Experts in Social Distancing
Label:
Louis "French Louie" Seymour (1832-1915) was born in Canada and ran away from home as a teenager. He worked for a circus, as a drover on the Erie Canal, and came to Indian Lake to work as a logger. He eventually settled near West Canada Lake, where he stayed for more than 50 years trapping, hunting, and fishing. A well-known guide, he lived alone in a series of shelters he built himself, traveling twice a year to Speculator to sell furs and buy supplies.
