Norman Shaw, born around 1839, lived on the eastern shore of Indian Lake, near Normans Cove which is named in his honor. A 1912 magazine advised sportsmen that Shaw might provide them with "green corn in the husk, for roasting, with potatoes just out of the hill and with a pail of cold water from the hermitage spring."
