Healing in the Adirondacks : Medicine and Medical Practice
Label:
The "Rondack Combination Couch and Chair" is a type of reclining chair used in the treatment of tuberculosis. The manufacturer advertised the bed as "indispensible for Sitting, Reclining and Sleeping outdoor [sic]--Greatest Boon a Hospital or Institution can provide." The foot rail was elevated to prevent a stone "pig," a ceramic hot water bottle, from falling off. This reclining chair was sold by George L. Starks' hardware store in Saranac Lake.
