Keeping warm in the woods was a life or death proposition. Noah John Rondeau made clothing, including this mitten, from materials at hand. Deer hide, bear skin, and fur from smaller animals provided the raw materials for clothing and blankets. He sometimes allowed the raw hide to cure while in use--his hat, made of muskrat, was a notorious example.
