The Stevens House in Lake Placid was ideally located to take advantage of the scenic views that make the High Peaks region a popular tourist destination. A landmark on Signal Hill for more than 50 years, the hotel advertised that "two hundred acres…are under cultivation as a farm and garden, which supply an abundance of fresh vegetables, eggs, butter, cream, milk and cheese." Guests strolled in a large ornamental garden along paths that radiated out from a central circular flower bed.
This postcard gives a bird's eye view of the buildings and landscape when the hotel, torn down in 1947, could accomodate as many as 500 guests.
