Adirondack Guideboats : Beauty and Utility in Action
Section:
In Recreation and Leisure

Label:
Many hotels and lodges owned guideboats for their guests to use locally. Paul Smith's Hotel on Lower St. Regis Lake was a large and fashionable wilderness resort. It had a large boathouse, a livery of many guideboats, and quarters for the many guides employed by the hotel.

This photo from around 1880 shows a number of guides and guideboats in front of the boathouse. Some of the guides appear to be performing maintenance on the boats.
