William "Bill" Johnson, Jr. (1924-2012), earned a National Youth Administration Certificate of War Production Training, learning the basics of aviation sheet metal work in 1942. He enlisted on January 29, 1943, and was assigned to a combat engineer battalion, a component of hte Army Corps of Engineers, where his construction skills were most valuable. After serving in the Pacific, he was honorably discharged in 1946, earning two bronze stars. After the war, Johnson worked for his family's construction firm in Tupper Lake until he retired in 1982.
