Roland Merritt Brown, Sr. (1923-2004) grew up working at his father's Cedar River Golf Course in Indian Lake. He served in a racially segregated US Army Air Force in the 477th Bomber Group, as a Tuskegee Airman. He spent 30 years with the Army after the war, ending his career with the rank of Major.
