The US government recognised the value of national and state parks in maintaining morale, but gas rationing and a moratorium on new car sales limited travel. Tourism in the Adirondacks declined.

The New York State Division of Commerce hoped to lure nearby residents to the Adirondacks by featuring the region in this brochure. They urged New Yorkers to "bring back from this year's vacation not only new strength and health of mind and spirit but a vision of truth and the will to vanquish evil which has made and shall make America invincible!"
