Wilderness to Warfront : The Adirondacks and World War II
Label:
The US Navy Seabees are the U.S. Naval Construction Force. Formed in the early part of the war, their nickname is derived from "C.B." for construction battalion. The Seabees built roads and bridges, barracks, airfields, any type of construction needed by all branches of the armed forces.

St. Regis Falls native Tony Rovito (1925-2012) served in the Seabees from 1943 to 1946, honorably discharged as a Machinist Mate Third Class. He settled in Tupper Lake, married, and worked for W.C. Johnson and Sons and the Adirondack Experience until his retirement in 1995. The Seabees patch is sewn on the left shoulder of his uniform; the yellow "ruptured duck" or Honorable Disharge patch, appears on the right front.
