Clarence Petty (1905-2009) was born and raised in Coreys, near Saranac Lake. Fascinated with airplanes since childhood, he became a licensed pilot in 1931. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served as a transport pilot in the Pacific. After the war, he retuned to his beloved Adirondacks and became an outspoken advocate for conservation.
