Franklin Joseph Tice (1920-1999), of Tupper Lake enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1941 after hearing about the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He saw active duty at Guadalcanal, Guam, and the Marannas Islands, where he saw some of the fiercest fighting in the Pacific. After serving for 45 months, Corporal Tice was honorably discharged on September 27, 1945.
Tice, an outstanding athlete in high school, served as athletic director and coach at his alma mater, Tupper Lake High School, from the 1950s until he retired in 1981.
