Adirondack Hermits : Experts in Social Distancing
Label:
Adirondack hermit and guide Atwell Martin (about 1830-1889) was famous for his tall tales and seemingly bottomless stomach. He came to the Adirondack woods to live after having been spurned by a woman, and built a shack near the headwaters of the Black River in Herkimer County. He was rumored to have killed an entire wolf pack with his bare hands and won a duel against Paul Bunyan.
