In the fall of 1925, Selleck fell ill and was brought out of the woods by concerned friends. In January, he returned to Upper Camp, still suffering from pneumonia. In early March, a lumber train crew found his body there, with a note that simply read "I have got pneumonia, Good-bye, Gilman."
