Arpad Gerster auctioned off his etchings of Alvah Dunning in 1892. Because Dunning had lost his pocketwatch while fishing, the proceeds were used to buy him a new one. Gerster presented Dunning with the new watch and gold chain at a Christmas party on Raquette Lake, as the old guide fainted in surprise.
