Cast iron benches like this were designed to complement their garden settings; comfort was rarely a consideration. This bench was purchased by the Hand family in Elizabethtown from J.W. Fiske & Co. at the end of the 19th century. The seat, back, and legs mimic the look of oak branches, with leaves and acorns.
