Adirondack Gardens : Cultivating the North Country
Label:
Although there are few commercial crops grown in the Adirondacks, there are several types of berries that do well in this climate. Strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries grow wild in the mountains, and farmers cultivate hybrid varieties to sell. This view of a raspberry farm near Jay was painted by the Reverend Boylan Fitz-Gerald, owner of nearby Paleface (now Bassett Mountain) ski resort.
