Adirondack Gardens : Cultivating the North Country
Label:
Edna West Teall (1881-1968) painted some of her most vivid memories of growing up in the 1880s and 1890s in the Adirondacks. In "Front Yard of Flowers," she captured her mother's garden in front of her family's small house in Reber. She described her mother as "endowed with a seldom-failing optimism [which] seemed to find an outlet in her flowers; their very brightness and the unfolding of their leaves and buds were a promise of pleasant fulfillment."
