Adirondack Gardens : Cultivating the North Country
Label:
In the cool mountain climate of the Adirondack Mountains, a garden's success sometimes means extending the growing season. Charles Meldrum Goodyear (1885-1973), an Olympic gold medal swimmer, and his wife Florence Goodyear (1884-1958), heir to a timber fortune, built a gardener's cottage for their summer camp in Sabattis. Two large greenhouses on either side of the residence allowed for round the clock care of tender seedlings and other frost-sensistive plants.
