Adirondack hermit Noah John Rondeau kept a diary, writing about the weather, visitors, hunting and fishing, and other daily activities. Throughout the spring and summer in the 1940s he noted "I do Garden Work," planting and tending to potatoes, turnips, carrots, and onions, as well as flowers like foxglove, nasturtiums, and bachelor buttons.
