Adirondack Gardens : Cultivating the North Country
Label:
Henry M. Beach photographed pine tree seedlings under cultivation at the new School of Forestry (now the Ranger School) in Wanakena. The trees may have been part of a state effort to reforest the Adirondacks prompted by fears that logging was reducing the tree cover and causing erosion. The school, which celebrated its centennial in 2012, teaches sustainable forestry, how to manage harvest without depleting the forest.
