Adirondack Great Camps often had large vegetable gardens tended by one or several staff, which supplied food for the camp kitchen. A tall wire fence kept deer out of the three-acre garden at Sagamore Lodge in Raquette Lake. Root vegetables, onions and squash were stored for use in winter months in a nearby root cellar.
