Once known as the Painter Laureate of the Mohawk Valley, Edward Christiana (1912-1992) is best known for his work in watercolor. He graduated from Pratt Institute in 1933, hoping to become a magazine illustrator. While teaching at the Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute in Utica, he introduced more abstract elements into his work, influenced by artists like John Marin.
