Label:
Members of the Society of Believers in the Second Coming of Christ, better known by the mocking name "Shakers" given them by outsiders, established a small settlement in Arietta in 1810. Ten years later, they abandoned the area. Grace deHaydon, wife of artist Charles Nicholas Sarka, painted one of their buildings then used as a hunting camp. The Sarkas were summer residents of Canada Lake.
