Transparent Views : The Adirondacks in Watercolor
Label:
The common loon is also known as the "spirit of northern waters," an icon of the wild forest in the Adirondacks. It's no wonder that Connecticut-based watercolor artist Allen Blagden (b.1938), who grew up summering on Upper Saranac Lake and near Raquette Lake, was inspired to paint the bird. Blagden was first taught to paint by his father Thomas, and graduated from Cornell University with a B.F.A. His inspiration comes from the natural world, where he says the subject matter for his paintings seeks him out rather than the reverse.
