This small watercolor sketch of a lean to in the woods is attributed to Canton, NY-born Frederic Sackrider Remington (1861-1909), best known for his scenes of the American Old West.

In 1888, Remington was working as artist correspondent for the illustrated newspaper Harper's Weekly, and had completed a commission for 83 images for a book by Theodore Roosevelt. Natural settings in the Adirondacks and Canada were a source of inspiration for his art throughout his career.
