Charles DeFeo (1892-1978) was an illustrator whose work appeared in popular magazines including Cosmopolitan, McCall's, and Field and Stream, as well as pulp novels and detective, sports, and men's magazines. An avid fisherman, he often traveled to South America to fish with baseball great and friend Ted Williams. He also spent time with fellow artist Paul Bransom at Bransom's camp at Canada Lake, where he may have painted this view of a wooded landscape.
