John Kellogg Woodruff (1879-1956), a graduate of Yale and Columbia Universities, was a painter, sculptor, graphic artist and teacher. He painted this view when stretches of the road to Chapel Pond had deteriorated badly enough to be impassible. In the mid-1930s, the road was re-built.
