Transparent Views : The Adirondacks in Watercolor
Label:
Alexander Lawrie painted this view looking east across Lower Saranac Lake to McKenzie Mountain. In spite of his obvious talent for landscape painting, Lawrie noted in his diary on July 17, 1869, that "Perhaps I have more promise in painting portraits than figures of the landscape." He turned to portraiture entirely after 1874.
