"Home for Loon" is one of seven paintings in a series titled "Boreal Relationships" by Rebecca Richman. The watercolors depict plant and animal species threatened by acid rain and other environmental problems. Richman is both an artist and an advocate for conservation. She urges viewers to not only appreciate the aesthetic beauty of nature, but also our connection with and responsibility to wild places and their other, non-human inhabitants.
In "Home for Loon" Richman ties together the life cycle of the loon with its favored food, yellow perch, the scales of which appear in the loon's reflection on the water.
