Watercolor artist Valerie Patterson (b. 1963) grew up in Ogdensburg, NY. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Painting and Master of Arts in Elementary Education from SUNY Potsdam. When not teaching art at Saranac Lake High School, she paints in her home studio. She scatters dozens of photgraphs on the floor for inspiration, and says "I feel more like the ideas come through me rather than from me." Images of her family, friends, her dogs, and the woods and waters surrounding her home are frequent sources of inspiration.
